FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TAYLOR COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE

AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT

February 28, 2022 – Would you like to learn more about what Taylor County is doing to minimize the impacts of floods, wildfires, landslides, dam incidents, and other hazards? A draft of the County’s updated Hazard Mitigation Plan is being made available for public review and comment. The plan assesses risks posed by natural and human-caused hazards, identifies ways to reduce those risks, and allows the County to be eligible for mitigation funding from FEMA. A Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (HMPC) that includes representatives from various county departments, all municipalities, various special districts and stakeholders updated the plan over the past five months with assistance from a consultant. The plan identifies hazard mitigation goals and a variety of mitigation projects with the intent of reducing losses from hazard events before they occur again. The planning committee is now soliciting public comment on the plan before it is finalized and submitted for FEMA review and approval.

This multi-jurisdictional plan covers Taylor County, City of Bedford, City of Blockton, City of Clearfield, City of Conway, City of Gravity, City of Lenox, City of New Market, City of Sharpsburg, Bedford Community School District and Lenox Community School District.

The comment period will be February 25 – March 11,2022.
